Have you ever wondered about using compatible toners, but were scared you would lose image quality or ruin the hardware of your machine? In the early days of compatibles, this may have been an issue, but as with many things in the technological field, as time went on, compatible toners started to get better and better. Nowadays there are quite a few reputable companies that offer guarantees about the quality and reliability of their compatible toners.
There are quite a few myths that prevent some from enjoying the discounts that compatible toners provide. The one I hear the most often is that the customer doesn't want to void their warranty. No manufacturer can force you to buy their toners over another by voiding the warranty. A company can deny coverage of a problem if the problem is found to be caused by another manufacturer's toner. This doesn't mean your warranty is gone. This means if a particular problem was caused by a compatible toner, the manufacturer would charge you to repair the issue for that particular issue only. For this reason a few of the larger compatible companies will go as far as to reimburse you for the damage, or send their own technicians out to repair the problems themselves. Almost all of them have links on their sites or a number to call for you to reach them about this issue.
The other common reason most avoid compatibles is the subject of quality. This is very understandable, as you ordered a machine costing a few thousand dollars to get the absolute best quality at the cheapest price you could find. Fortunately this too is now something compatible companies guarantee about their products. If the image quality is not up to the manufacturers original toners, most compatible companies will gladly refund your purchase or send out a 2nd cartridge to see if that corrects the issue.
In addition to selling the machines and their supplies, we also service the machines. It is rare (though not unheard of) to see a hardware issue caused directly by a particular brand of toner over another. Image quality issues are seen more commonly, but in our experience not any more or less than the manufacturers brand.
So to summarize, buying compatible toners doesn't automatically mean poor image quality and your machine breaking down more often. While some problems still do exist, most companies have now become reputable enough to fully guarantee their products. The only real question left is if you're ready to take the plunge and start saving some money.
We carry a few different brands of compatible toners. By far the best we have found is Hyperion Supplies. Below you can download a PDF of their guarantee or you can visit their site at hyperionsupplies.com.
